She Was Wearing a Mask…

1 Oct

On Saturday, we went to Andong, to the International MaskDance Festival. We were told if we want to see traditional Korean culture, then this was the place to go- and following on from our extremely cultural trip to Gyeongju over Chuseok, we jumped at the chance to feel more at home and understand more of the history of our charming new country of residence. It was a beautiful autumn day, the sun was shining, and the vibrancy of the outfits and masks we saw kept a smile on my face for the duration. I felt I understood- and was part of- the entire basis of Korea. The sociocultural, religious and historical heritage that still resists the technological and western power spreading over the Far East.

Myself, Steph and her lovely co-teachers Lia and Lindsay wandered around all the stalls, saw some gorgeous shows, that gave me goosebumps, even thought I couldn’t understand the commentary! We even made our own masks!
